Confirmed Fasti for 2026
Dear Fellow OSGS Members,
Welcome to the 2026 OSGS Fasti!
My congratulations to our new President – Peter Worth – on his appointment to this role.
My thanks to Will Painter – our outgoing President – after six years at the helm.
Simon Shepherd has been appointed as the new nonplaying Captain of the Halford Hewitt (HH) Team – I will shortly be circulating a HH Policy Document which sets out how our HH team will be selected, and how you might be able to get into the side in the future.
We are always on the lookout for new OS golfers with low single figure handicaps who we might not know about – if you know someone – please let us know.
The Fasti now indicates a number of HH Pathway meetings which will enable aspiring team members to play and potentially enhance their chances of a place on our team or put them in the development squad. Everyone else is still very welcome to play in these events too as usual.
Finally, Andy Pollock has been appointed as the new Mellin Team Captain and Andy has just taken over as the “President of the Salopian Club for 2026” – this is a prestigious role and recognition of his contribution to Shrewsbury over many years including stints as a School Governor and his contribution to OS Sport. Many congratulations!
The eagle eyed amongst you might have noticed that the updated 2026 OSGS Fasti is now live on the website. The purpose of this email is to draw your attention to some specific events to encourage sign-up and attendance in the forthcoming golf season.
The Campion Trophy Knock Out is about to Open for entries now. Please sign up by Friday 20 March 2026. Our winner in 2025 for the second consecutive year was Jonathan Mitchell – can someone knock him off his perch this year?
This is a fantastic way of meeting fellow OSGS members and playing different courses at a fraction of the usual cost as a Member’s Guest.
Those playing away from home get a couple of extra shots too, to help even out the home advantage.
I run the Draw as a Northern & Southern draw to reduce travel in the first and potentially second rounds.
Your entry fees go towards paying the finalists travel and hotel expenses – The final will be at Royal Birkdale which will hopefully be in October after The Open there this year.
Historically, we have had almost 64 players one year in this knock-out. More recently, the numbers have dropped down – which is a shame. Do please consider playing and sign up to play now. The rules of the KO are on the Entry.
Both of our Spring Meetings are now open for entry too:
South – at Denham on Thursday 12 March and/or
North at Hoylake on Friday 17 April.
These are both cracking events to play in and get your golf season underway – sign up now please!
The 28th Grand Scottish Tour in East Lothian, Scotland is Tuesday 2 June until Thursday 4 June playing Longniddry, HCEG, Muirfield or Dunbar & Gullane N0 2. I have still have some spaces for people to join the tour this year – please send me an email if you want more information or you are free to join. The golf is fixed, and I can help you with accommodation at a variety of price points from minimal cost to expensive luxury. This is always the highlight of our Fasti – come and give it a swing!!! Do bring your wife/partner to play too. I look forward to having a few more new people to join us.
The Joint OSGS / Sabrina Meeting has booked Henley-on-Thames Golf Club again this year for our “Bring a Guest” meeting on Monday 29 June before the Henley Royal Regatta starts on Tuesday 30 June. Why not play some golf with a visit to the regatta to support the Shrewsbury crews? Full details on the website.
I am working with The Schools’ about arranging our annual match against them and the OSFC have not been in touch about their fixture either – if anyone wants to give them a nudge – please get in touch.
We have the usual end of season meetings at Trentham and New Zealand.
Plus, you will see some extra matches at various clubs – do email the organiser (get their details from the Member Directory) if you are interested in playing in these events.
I am always on the lookout for ideas / suggestions – would you be willing to host an event sometime? Please get in touch.
Floreat Salopia!
Best wishes
